Civil Justice Council

The Civil Justice Council (CJC) is an advisory body, sponsored by the Ministry of Justice, which oversees and co-ordinates the modernisation of the civil justice system in England and Wales. The "Publications" page (this may only be accessible via the site map in some browsers) contains latest consultation responses, research reports and press releases 2004 onwards, and annual reports 2003 onwards.

Department of Finance and Personnel: Law Reform

This page within the Law and Regulation section of the Department of Finance and Personnel (DFP) web site provides information on the work of the Civil Law Reform Division (CLRD). The DFP is a department of the devolved Northern Ireland government, and the CLRD (part of its Departmental Solicitor's Office) is responsible for certain aspects of civil law reform, including private family law, trusts and property law, tort, contract law and private international law. There is information on past and current projects and news of recent developments.

Law Commission

The Law Commission is the statutory independent body created in 1965 to review the law and recommend reform. There are complete lists of all reports and consultation papers published since its inception, and a list showing the implementation status of reports. The full texts of reports are available from no.237 (1996) onwards, consultation papers from no.140 (1996) onwards, and annual reports from 31st (1996) onwards. The "Law under Review" section provides information on current projects and has links to government departmental sites which are currently involved in a consultation process.

Northern Ireland Law Commission

The Northern Ireland Law Commission, an independent advisory non-departmental public body, was formally launched on 1 April 2008. Its function is to keep the law of Northern Ireland under review and to make recommendations for its systematic development and reform.

Scottish Law Commission

The Scottish Law Commission was set up in 1965 to examine areas where law reform, statute law revision or consolidation might be appropriate, and to make recommendations. Virtually all its reports published 1988 onwards, and discussion papers published 1996 onwards, are available on the web site. Selected publications from before those dates are being added retrospectively. Where applicable there are details of legislation implementing the Commission's recommendations.
