British Insurance Law Association

The British Insurance Law Association (BILA) is both a domestic organisation and the British Chapter of the Association International de Droit des Assurances (AIDA). Site content includes texts of lectures and papers delivered at BILA events, accessible by selecting first Events and then Lecture Scripts. There is a link to the separate web site of the BILA Journal current issue and archive.

Notes on recent cases in the UK and other jurisdictions, mostly relating to shipping and insurance, are provided on this site by David Martin-Clark, a barrister, maritime arbitrator, and consultant in shipping and insurance.

Elborne Mitchell

Elborne Mitchell is a City of London solicitors' firm. Included on its site are case summaries December 1997 onwards, found under "Judgments", and articles focusing mainly on insurance/reinsurance, shipping, and commercial and employment law.

Financial Ombudsman Service

The Financial Ombudsman Service, created by the Financial Services and Markets Act (FSMA) 2000, settles disputes between businesses providing financial services and their customers. Its site includes details of the complaint process, annual reviews 1999/2000 onwards, a link to the FSMA 2000, and a link to the dispute resolution section of the Financial Services Authority Handbook (on the FSA site), under which it operates. There is a regular online newsletter Ombudsman News.

Financial Services Authority

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is the independent regulator for the financial services industry in the UK, which includes banks, building societies, credit unions, insurance companies, friendly societies, financial advisers, stockbrokers, fund managers, mortgage brokers and insurance intermediaries. The "FSA Library" section of its web site contains an extensive range of downloadable documents including rules and regulations, consultation papers, press releases and annual reports. Also on the site are the consolidated FSA Handbook and the FSA's register of financial services firms.

Forum of Insurance Lawyers

The Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) is an organisation for lawyers who act predominantly or exclusively for insurance companies. It also lobbies actively on insurance litigation issues. Much of the content of its web site is restricted to members only, but some news and information is freely available.

Ince & Co.

Ince & Co. is an international commercial law firm. The site's "Our Knowledge" section includes legal updates on various topics including insurance and reinsurance law and shipping and trade. A "Shipping E-brief" is published several times a year.

Lloyd's Acts and Byelaws

This section of  the Lloyd's web site provides the full text of all Lloyd's Acts and Byelaws currently in force, together with the latest version of the Underwriting Requirements.
