Arab Human Rights Index
Sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme on Governance in the Arab Region (UNDP-POGAR). The index is a repository for the entire set of United Nations documents pertaining to human rights and the responses, including reservations, by the Arab member states to the committees that monitor the core international human rights treaties. Commonwealth Secretariat: Human Rights
The Documents section in this area of the Commonwealth Secretariat site includes a table showing the ratification status of human rights treaties in Commonwealth countries, a number of declarations of principle on human rights, and documents produced by meetings of Commonwealth Heads of Government. The Documents section includes Best Practice guides and a twice-yearly Human Rights Update, January 2003 onwards.

Council of Europe: Commissioner for Human Rights
The Commissioner for Human Rights is an independent institution within the Council of Europe, responsible for promoting human rights within member states. The first Commissioner began work in 1999, and the site has all documentation to date (including opinions, recommendations, reports, seminar papers and speeches).

Department for Constitutional Affairs: Human Rights
The DCA Human Rights Unit's main responsibility is to ensure the successful implementation of the Human Rights Act 1998, which incorporates into UK law rights and freedoms guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights. In May 2007 this responsibility was transferred to the newly created Ministry of Justice, but the Human Rights section of the archived DCA site continues to provide useful information and resources. The site includes the Guide to the Human Rights Act 1998 (3rd edition) which is available as a downloadable PDF and a link to the full text of the Human Rights Act.

Equality and Human Rights Commission
The Equality and Human Rights Commission was established on 1 October 2007 under the Equality Act 2006. It replaced the Equal Opportunities Commission, Commission for Racial Equality and Disability Rights Commission, taking over their existing responsibilities for racial, disability and sex discrimination and also taking on new responsibilities for aspects of equality relating to sexual orientation, age, religion or belief, and human rights. Current legislation, codes of practice, guidance, and advice on case handling can be found in the "Advice and guidance" section, while the "Legislative framework" section includes forthcoming legislation, responses to consultations, and information about the Commission's enforcement work.

European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment :CPT Database
CPT is the abbreviated name of the committee established by Article 1 of the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (1987). The database includes all CPT reports and public statements, and the "standards" from the CPT's annual general reports.

European Court of Human Rights
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), based in Strasbourg, was set up in 1959 under the European Convention on Human Rights. Information and documents relating to the history, composition and working of the Court include the HUDOC database of the case law of the Convention, the Court Rules, the text of the Convention and protocols, and dates of ratification. The HUDOC case law database covers the European Court of Human Rights, the defunct European Commission on Human Rights (1954-1998), and the Committee of Ministers. Honour Crimes Project
The 'Honour Crimes' Project is jointly co-ordinated by CIMEL (Centre of Islamic and Middle Eastern Law, at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London) and INTERIGHTS (International Centre for the Legal Protection of Human Rights). It aims to co-ordinate an international approach to fighting 'honour crimes'. The site includes extensive links arranged either alphabetically for international organisations or by country for national organisations. Documentation in the Materials and Resources section also includes materials relating to 'crimes of honour' that were not produced by the CIMEL/INTERIGHTS Project. Case summaries are available in the Bibliography section arranged by country.

HUDOC
HUDOC is the official database of the case law of the European Convention on Human Rights. Content includes judgments, screening panel decisions and admissibility decisions of the European Court of Human Rights 1959 to date; public reports and admissibility decisions of the defunct European Commission on Human Rights complete from 1986 to 1999, with some earlier decisions; and resolutions of the Committee of Ministers 1959 to 2004. For more detailed information on the contents of the database and guidance on searching there is a downloadable HUDOC Internet Manual (pdf).

Human and Constitutional Rights
This site by Columbia University Law School, although no longer updated, contains a comprehensive set of links to human rights and constitutional rights resources, grouped together under a number of headings. Created by the Centre for the Study of Human Rights (CSHR) at Columbia University, this annotated bibliography aims to map the study of human rights impact. The bibliography is divided into two sections. The first, 'Methods and Tools Relating to Human Rights Impact', is subdivided into subject areas including: Civil and Political, Economics, Social and Cultural, Health, Business, Children's Rights, and Sex and Gender. Inter-American Court of Human Rights
The Court was formed in 1969 and comprises of 25 American nations (excluding the USA). The site includes the Court's rules of procedure, decisions and judgments back to 1987, advisory opinions back to 1982, press releases back to 1998 (some available only in Spanish), the text of the Statute of the Court, and many international conventions on the subject of human rights.

INTERIGHTS
The International Centre for the Legal Protection of Human Rights (INTERIGHTS) is a UK registered charity, established in 1982. The site includes summaries (many unpublished) of Commonwealth and international human rights law reports, searchable by subject, country, treaty, tribunal and date of decision. Bulletins, "legal briefs" and a news sections are also available.

International Commission of Jurists
The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) is a non-governmental organisation which promotes human rights and the rule of law both internationally and at a national level. Founded in 1952, it comprises a standing group of 60 eminent jurists from many jurisdictions worldwide, supported by an International Secretariat based in Geneva. Its web site includes a monthly E-Bulletin on Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights and full text of ICJ publications from their Practitioners' Guide series, Human Rights and Rule of Law series, and Panel series. International Committee of the Red Cross: International Humanitarian Law
This section of the ICRC site explains international humanitarian law (including its relationship to international human rights law), its role in the protection of victims of war, and its relationship with the work of the ICRC. Select "Info resources" and then "IHL databases" to access databases of treaties and of national implementation. The Treaty Database includes about 100 treaties and texts, commentaries on the four Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols, an up-to-date list of signatures and ratifications, and full text of reservations. The National Implementation database provides documentation and commentaries concerning the implementation of international humanitarian law at national level. Throughout the site links are provided to key documents and other publications. ICRC annual reports are included from 1994 onwards, and press releases 2002 onwards.

International Human Rights Research Guide
A research guide prepared by Grace M. Mills, Director of the Law Library at Florida A&M University. The guide, first published on GlobaLex in March 2007 and now updated to March 2008, gives a brief introduction to the main human rights bodies and provides an extensive list of human rights documents organised by subject matter.

This Project works towards the development, coordination and increased employment of international law and humans rights standards as they pertain to capital punishment, primarily in the United States. Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission
The Commission was set up in March 1999 under section 68 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 in compliance with the commitment made by the British Government in the Good Friday Agreement. Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights
OHCHR is the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, who is the United Nations official with principal responsibility for UN human rights activities. Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe: Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights
The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is an ad hoc international organisation under the United Nations, with 56 participating states, concerned with conflict prevention and crisis management. Its Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) is active in areas which include election observation, democratic development, human rights and the rule of law. ODIHR publishes and maintains the Legislationline database: a link to that and other specialised OSCE databases is provided in the Resources pages. Established in 1994 to promote human rights and international justice, this independent research and training centre is now part of the U.C. Berkeley School of Law. The Human Rights Center (HRC) has conducted human rights investigations in more than a dozen countries, including the United States, Iraq, Rwanda, Uganda, Burma and the former Yugoslavia. Universal Human Rights Index
The Universal Human Rights Index is a project developed by the Institute of Public Law of the University of Bern, Switzerland. The index provides access to documents of the United Nations human rights treaty bodies and the Special Procedures of Humans Rights Council. It contains all concluding observations issued by the treaty bodies from the year 2000 onwards, as well as reports published by the Special Procedures since 2006. Documents can be accessed by country, rights or body.

This site, produced by Dr Stuart D. Stein of the University of the West of England, brings together resources, either on-site or via links, which are concerned with genocide, war crimes and mass killing. It includes details of trials of war criminals, international treaties, and laws implementing genocidal policies (for example pre-second world war German legislation).
