Bank of England
The Bank of England is the central bank of the United Kingdom. Within "About the Bank" there is a Legislation section containing the Bank of England Acts 1694, 1946 and 1998, and the Bank of England Charters of 1694 and 1998. Other site content includes various publications and statistics, amongst which is a table of base rate changes from 1970 to date.

Basel Committee
The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, based at the Bank for International Settlements, formulates broad supervisory standards and guidelines for banks, though it lacks any formal supranational supervisory authority. The site contains press releases, speeches, working papers and newsletters. Under the "Central bank hub" tab there is a set of links to the web sites of central banks worldwide.

British Bankers’ Association
The British Bankers' Association is a trade association for banks which operate in the UK. Publications on its site include current versions, together with associated guidance, of the Lending Code and the Code of Conduct for the Advertising of Interest Bearing Accounts. The "Customers - Personal Banking" section has an extensive glossary of banking terms.

Elexica is a free legal resource from the international law firm Simmons & Simmons, providing frequent updates in the fields of dispute resolution, banking and building/construction, among many others. Typically the materials within each subject area will include practice notes, current awareness materials, case summaries and guidelines. Email newsletters are also available. Financial Ombudsman Service
The Financial Ombudsman Service, created by the Financial Services and Markets Act (FSMA) 2000, settles disputes between businesses providing financial services and their customers. Its site includes details of the complaint process, annual reviews 1999/2000 onwards, a link to the FSMA 2000, and a link to the dispute resolution section of the Financial Services Authority Handbook (on the FSA site), under which it operates. There is a regular online newsletter Ombudsman News.

Financial Services Authority
The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is the independent regulator for the financial services industry in the UK, which includes banks, building societies, credit unions, insurance companies, friendly societies, financial advisers, stockbrokers, fund managers, mortgage brokers and insurance intermediaries. The "FSA Library" section of its web site contains an extensive range of downloadable documents including rules and regulations, consultation papers, press releases and annual reports. Also on the site are the consolidated FSA Handbook and the FSA's register of financial services firms.

HM Treasury: Counter Illicit Finance
This part of the Treasury web site relates to work on combating money laundering and terrorism financing. The site contains the papers of the Money Laundering Advisory Committee, relevant legislation, consultations, press releases and speeches.

Lending Standards Board
On 1 November 2009 responsibility for the regulation of deposit and payment products transfered to the Financial Services Authority. In the light of this change the Banking Code Standards Board has changed its name to the Lending Standards Board (LSB). The LSB will monitor and enforce compliance with a new Lending Code that replaces those elements of the Banking Code and Business Banking Code relating to lending. The LSB web site contains the Lending Code and Code Rules. |
